Having Full Awareness When Lying Down
Read Chapter 25 of Foundation in The Teachings: Having Full Awareness When Lying Down.
Ānanda, if his mind inclines to lying down, he lies down, thinking:
While I am lying down thus, no evil unwholesome states will invade me.
In this way he has full awareness of that.
(Reference: MN 122)
In this Teaching from Gotama Buddha, he shares with his close Student Ānanda how even when lying down a Practitioner needs to be actively aware to not allow “evil unwholesome states” to “invade” the mind.
At all times, a Practitioner needs to have full awareness of mind including when lying down.
This determination, dedication, and diligence to never allow the mind to be complacent will result in beneficial outcomes as the Practitioner is able to observe any arising discontentedness while cutting it off and letting it go so that it is no longer subject to arising in the future.
