Ānanda, I instituted that wholesome practice, which leads to complete liberation, to freedom from strong feelings, to elimination, to peace, to direct knowledge (experience), to Enlightenment, to Nibbāna.

And what is that wholesome practice?

It is this Noble Eight Fold Path; that is, Right View, Right Intention, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration.

Ānanda, I say to you: continue this wholesome practice instituted by me and do not be the last man. Ānanda, when there are two men living, he under whom there occurs a breach of this wholesome practice - he is the last man among them.

Therefore, Ānanda, I say to you: continue this wholesome practice instituted by me and do not be the last man.

(Reference: MN 83)

In this Teaching from Gotama Buddha, he shares that The Eight Fold Path is “The Path to Enlightenment” resulting in “complete liberation, to freedom from strong feelings, to elimination, to peace, to direct knowledge (experience), to Enlightenment, to Nibbāna”.

He encourages one of his close Students Ānanda to stay dedicated to this “wholesome practice” and “do not be the last man” to attain Enlightenment.

Detailed explanation of The Eight Fold Path is available in this same book series found in the book “Developing a Life Practice: The Path That Leads to Enlightenment” (Volume 1).
