Read Chapter 99 of Foundation in The Teachings: Three Places that Should Be Remembered.
Monks, there are these three (places) that a head-anointed Khattiya King should remember all his life.
What three?
(1) The first is the place where he was born.
(2) The second is the place where he was head-anointed a Khattiya King.
(3) And the third is the place where, having triumphed in battle, he emerged victorious and settled at the head of the battlefield.
These are the three (places) that a head-anointed Khattiya King should remember all his life.
(Reference: AN 3.12)
In this Teaching from Gotama Buddha, he shares Teachings about the three (3) places that should always be remembered by a King.
The Buddha taught people at all levels of society including members of the royal family.
He shares that the King should remember the place of his birth, the place where he was anointed as a King, and the place where he won in battle.
A consideration for Practitioners in applying this Teaching to your life practice, I suggest that you always remember the place where you were born, the location of any significant successes you have accomplished in life, and remember those people who have contributed to your success.
Any success that you have accomplished in this life was not purely a success that you achieved through your own independent efforts but instead, there are others who contributed to your success.
In order to continue to experience success, you will need to remember those who contributed to your success showing gratitude and appreciation for their efforts to help you in this life. In doing so, you will have ensured that you have acknowledged the contributions of others to the goals and objectives you accomplish helping to eliminate conceit.
